My son turned four today. They say snakes and snails and puppy dog tails are the components of little boys, and I don’t think they’re too far off.
I’m thankful that, having been blessed with only one boy smack in the middle of a girls sandwich, he truly is ALL boy. Soren loves bugs. He once killed a spider for me and then put it in his shoe to save it, saying it was his “most favorite spider.” He can most easily be persuaded to do something by my asking simply, “Soren, do you think you’re strong enough to…?” He would rather run than walk, rather jump than sit, rather be outside than in. Feeding him is a full time job and someone’s full time salary.
But if there was every any question of what stuff he’s made of, this little story from tonight should decide it. Please forgive the indiscreet nature of the story. 🙂
Soren was sitting on the toilet quite comfortably as we got the kids ready for bed. He was taking his time finishing up his business. We got the kids’ teeth brushed, and I decided to brush my teeth as well and use some Listerine. Dave and I were still in the bathroom with a couple of the kids. So Soren, who by the way refuses to flush until he’s good and done, suddenly says,
“Something smells bad in here.”
Dave and I look at each other and roll our eyes.
“Soren, why don’t you get up, wipe, flush, and get out then.”
He looks at us and says “No. *sniff sniff* Something smells…*nose wrinkle*… minty.”
I’ll leave you with the customary retrospective. Happy Birthday, Soren! It’s been a wonderful four years getting to know you, and I look forward to many more.
Happy birthday to Soren! Sweet boy. I liked the retrospective.
