Adventures in Babysitting

I bought a sewing pattern online because it was on sale and I wanted to try it. It’s one of those downloadable patterns where you have to tape the printed 8 1/2 x 11″ pages together and then cut out the pieces. The upside is, you give them your measurements and the pattern is created for your specific size – no altering required. Well, the kids were playing nicely in their room so I went right next door to my sewing/computer room. I printed it and then started trying to lay it out. Of course the kids were coming in and out and stepping all over the papers. After sending them back to their room I heard that dreaded sound: the silence where you realize it’s been quiet too long. So I went downstairs to find Jireh and Soren had gone into the fridge, gotten out the Costco-size Parmesan cheese, brought it into my bedroom and dumped it onto the floor.

Boy, did I have grace and patience. So much so that I possibly didn’t get the point across at all. I simply told them to strip down, and got those two smelly-cheesy kids into the shower post haste. After scrubbing and shampooing, I vacuumed the mess. Then I got them out of the shower one by one. No sooner had I dried Jireh off and started on Soren, then Jireh grabbed the not-quite-empty 24 oz cheese container and proceeded to try to empty it completely. So I retrieved the container and put it back in the fridge (there are still a couple of lumps that didn’t fit through). When I got back, Soren was playing with the cheese she had just dumped out.

I brought them upstairs and put them to bed. Went back to my papers and just as I had another row ready to paste together, heard soft footsteps going downstairs. I went to the kitchen and sure enough Jireh was getting the cheese container again. I was in time to pre-empt her evildoing this time. But needless to say I still have not finished putting the 56 page grid together yet.

I can’t get over how much dumping you deal with. I’d lose my mind. Then again, perhaps it would be better than the burden of vomit (which I experienced about 30 minutes ago). And hey, it wouldn’t be so scary to be like me (ha ha). Besides, I barely registered on the granola test. I’m not crunchy in any way. So, it isn’t that bad Maybe Jireh needs more dairy in her diet. Feed the craving. ha ha.

  4. yeah that’s what i said zuly. they didn’t say how many pages it would be before you bought it.

  5. i thought the 56 pages thing was, like, hyperbole.

  6. Isn’t it fun being mom.  Maybe next time you can have them sit on the couch and watch you.

well, who can blame them, really? i enjoy dumping parmesan cheese all over my floor, too. it’d be even better if someone sent me to bed afterwards.

Where do you get these patterns? Sounds like a lot of work, but cool!
