Sideways Psychology

Girls:
“I want to sleep in the bottom bunk!”
“No, I want to sleep in the bottom bunk!”

Dave*: “You can both sleep in the bottom bunk if you want.”

Girls:
“No, I don’t want to sleep with Jireh.”
“No, I don’t want to sleep with Miriam.”

Dave: “OK, we will draw for it. Here is a penny and a dime. I am putting them in this bag. Whoever picks out the penny can pick where they sleep. OK Miriam, you picked the penny. Where do you want to sleep?”

Miriam: “In the top bunk.”

(*the conversation was originally in Spanish.)
