Today I decided to go get this water wheel toy for our front porch. We’re going to have a bunch of kids over for Jireh’s birthday barbecue and I wanted them to have something to do outside. So, after breakfast we all got showered, dressed and loaded into the car. As soon as I got on the highway it started raining sheets. We got all the way down to Toys R Us and they didn’t have the toy I wanted. I knew I would never get down there again and I had a gift card from Soren’s birth that I needed to use, so I decided to get the kids something else instead. I chose this child-height unicorn that they can sit on. It was on clearance and with the gift certificate it was only a few dollars. They love it.
It was actually a really fun trip and I was amazed at how well behaved my kids were. They just looked at stuff, talked about it, played with some of the displays and when I said it was time to move on they just followed me happily. It was like the Twilight Zone or something. Soren sat in the shopping cart looking around contentedly. I was so pleased with them. And I made sure to enjoy the hour or so because I know it is not certain to happen again anytime soon.
On the way back (we left the store before 3) we were stuck in some weird traffic and didn’t get home until almost 5 (normally a 30 minute trip). At least the kids slept in the car! Now they are upstairs playing in their room until dinner, which is in the oven.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
