More Antics (back by popular request)

I keep meaning to blog these stories but haven’t yet. Miriam is so
expressive these days and has started making commentary about
everything. I can tell it’s going to be a fun year.

Scene: dinner time, pizza cut in quarters and then 2 quarters into
eighths. Girls are given their small slices, and Dave takes a big slice.

Miriam (scoldingly): Papi, just one at a time.

[Dave and I look at each other and start laughing.]

Dave (in Spanish): It is just one piece, look! See?

Miriam: Papi, I like it too, but I just take one at a time.

Scene: Miriam sees a painting of Thomas and Jesus where Jesus is showing him the wound in his side.

Miriam: He has a boo-boo.

Me: That’s Jesus after he was raised from the dead.

Miriam: Yeah, I know. Jesus. That’s kinda like Jésus. (with a very gutteral Spanish J)

There are probably more but I can’t think of them right now.

And just so all you moms can feel better about whatever brattiness your children are giving you lately:

These girls have been tag teaming in mischief double time lately. One
day this week, they dumped an entire bag of chips all over the floor
and couch in living room (it’s been a nice midday search-n-snack for
them since), splashed in the guest toilet and threw wet pieces of
toilet paper all over the walls, got into the upstairs bathroom and
splashed in that toilet (seriously I thought they were out of that
phase!), dumped out an entire box of q-tips, and spread rice from their
dinner plates in a very symmetrical
1-grain-per-square-centimeter-of-the-table pattern.

The other night they woke up in the middle of the night and Dave went
to put them back in bed and found a package of English muffins in their
room. “No wonder the refrigerator is never shut,” he said.

Yesterday after I gave them both showers I decided to make pancakes for
breakfast so of course within 10 minutes they were covered in syrup
from head to toe. Jireh had a sticky spot on her knee that dirt kept
sticking to all day. Yesterday was my finance/desk day so I was on the
phone quite a bit with different companies and banks, and my main
concern was keeping them quiet. They got some grapes out of the fridge
(which I approved ex post facto) but little did I know that they were
actually playing marbles with them on my bedroom carpet. They unmade my
bed some 4 times (only because that is how many times it took me to
stop re-making it) and even though I thought I was watching them
carefully, somehow managed to sneak some kind of crumbly food in there
and scatter it between the sheets. They were so wired and just plain
annoying by the end of the night (I hadn’t let them watch any videos
yesterday but I don’t know if it helped or hurt) that I decided to give
them a bath so that they would be more tired and hopefully not get out
of bed. I don’t know why, but it did work. Maybe they sensed that my
limit had been reached.

Anyway, today’s a new day, and I see Jireh is attempting to figure out
how the musical potty seat works using Dave’s hairbrush as a tool, so I
had better go investigate.

Very cute stories!  I missed your post previous to this on “Decisions”.  My s-i-l is an ob nurse who has assisted in home births and they can be quite successful if the circumstance (such as yours) are good.  I am so happy for you!  I would honestly love one but there is no chance.  I am looking at possibility of C-section on the next, praying things turn around (literally!)

Syrup is my current pet peeve. Unfortunately, with the French toast stick phase we have going on, it is the most requested condiment.  Sticky fingers everywhere!
Are your little ones into Spanish? My boys pick up on phrases from their videos and books but I’m sadly undereducated in the language. Now if they wanted to learn some Latin…

:-O  no words.  I would have died from a thrombosis!

Wow, how many years have passed! 🙂 Now they have new siblings who have antics of their own. I’ll be a little sad when you stop having babies, if only beacause of the reduction of cute factor!
