A Day Out

Six month pictures for Soren yesterday. That was a very long two hours.
(Not counting the hour and a half drive from my house to the studio.)
My serious son didn’t smile much. Every time I caught his attention and
got him to smile, the photographer said “There we go!” and he would
immediately jerk his head toward her with a perplexed look. Bye-bye,
smile.

I had dressed the girls and Soren in white shirts and khaki shorts (all
I could find to match the 3) and we tried getting a picture of the
three of them. Jireh was her usual recalcitrant self. Soren had about
had it with posing. Miriam was the most cooperative of all. That is,
until Jireh started sitting in the right spot and smiling. Then Miriam
went into passive resistance mode, wouldn’t hold the baby, and lay
backwards with her arms stretched out. Figures.

Then since I was already out that way and we knew some people who had
just moved to town (the ones with twin girls and another girl) and so I
gave them a call and we headed over there to say hello for a couple of
hours. I had, unfortunately, told the kids we were going to a Chick Fil
A playplace  (which was my original plan) and they didn’t forget
the promise of a slide. As soon as we left that apartment I had to hear
“Mommy, I want slide!” So I thought, well, I’m almost to my in law’s
house, and they have a playground, at least I can relax there and
stuff.

So we headed over there and spent the rest of the evening. In laws
weren’t home for dinner so I got takeout and the bonus was, Gilmore
Girls was on (I never get to watch the new episodes, because I don’t
have TV, I just get the series on DVD). So I stayed and watched that
and then we headed home.

Today, I get to straighten up the aftereffects of rushing-out-of-the-house yesterday.

I remember how to get to your house (from the church, though…) I do recall going over to the Howards’, which is pretty much the way I would come. I should be fine with the directions.

I’ve lost my MyXspy. Can you tell me what happened? It seems like you don’t have yours either.

  4. Sarah,
Hey, my sister has told me so much about you. My sister is Tracy who is Angie’s sister-in-law. She keeps saying that I have to look you up (the one with three kids ages three and under and one on the way) Whoo! I bow down to you sista! Hey, thanks for the eprop. We should talk more often. I think we have a lot in common!

The party was at my mom’s house, and she got some adorable clothes! And not too many toys (which is great! we already have too many!). There is a party for her at Margaret’s on Sunday…don’t know if she told you or not. But I hope that y’all can make it!

I’m trying to work up the nerve for a portrait session with all 3 kids. Any tips you picked up after the ordeal?

  10. Sometimes it seems easier just to grab your own doggone camera and take your own portrait.
And, based on the wonderful pics you have on here, you probably didn’t need a ‘professional’ photographer!

  11. Ha ha, well I’m stuck doing 6 month pictures for all eternity because my mother in law has a wall of 6 month pictures, starting with her 5 sons and then all their kids. All the boys (but one who was too fat) wear the same outfit. So it’s a big milestone. I just tried to get all 3 since I was there anyway. Not like she’s charging per kid… As far as what I learned, well, I picked a good time (11 am) before they get tired and hungry. Of course it would be much better if I lived closer to the photographer, because the commute makes them both! I also will save the snacks for after the session, not before. The main fussing was due to the snacks (too slowly eaten) being taken away so the shoot could begin. Another tip, bring bribes, some kind of candy that they can eat discreetly (without making their cheeks bulge). My kids happen to like Altoids. (Weird, I know.)

Hmm…Phil needs…. dress socks? lol I don’t know. It’s hard enough for me to shop for Phil… And as for Lucie…something edible is fine. lol or clothes, but I’d rather those not be edible. hahaoh and I can’t wait to see Søren’s 6 month pics!
