Update on the Potty Training (faint of heart need not read on)

So far Miriam has not had another wet diaper since I brought home the
potty Saturday. She woke up and went on the potty, and she even went on
the toilet yesterday the whole time we were at my mother in law’s
house. Thanks for all the encouragement. It certainly seems to be
working! At least I only need to use 1-2 pullups for the whole day.
(She has refused point blank to go #2 in the potty and even said she
would “not make stinky EVER” when I asked her to go in the potty).

Drawback yesterday, Jireh (15 minutes before we were aiming to leave
for church) decided to go #2 on the potty and missed it by about 3
inches. Then she proceeded to track it around the carpet in the 1.5
minutes I happened to be upstairs getting their dresses out of the
closet. These kids.

Yesterday (because we didn’t have the potty seat with us) I bribed
Miriam to use the toilet by giving her a treat from my MIL’s pantry
every time she went. Toward the end of the day she asked my MIL for
some applesause and then didn’t eat it, so my MIL told her no to the
next snack request, saying “No, you didn’t eat your applesauce so I’m
not going to open something else for you.” Tricky Miriam then went
straight to the potty, mustered up a small trickle of #1, and then came
requesting her reward. So of course I had to give her something. She
went back to my MIL with a mouth full of Mento and started gloating. My
MIL said to her “Are you saying Ha Ha Nanny Boo Boo to me, Miriam?”
Miriam looked at her and replied, “Ha Ha Ha Hallelujah.”

Hi there! Sorry I’m a chronic lurker. How is your family? You have three kids?! I have two boys Lunden (2 yrs) and Bryce (6 mo.).
Good luck on the potty training. What worked for me was forcing liquids and letting Lunden run around with no bottoms on. (less laundry) Also a big bag of Tootsie Rolls.

HAHA  crazy!  Yes, i shouldn’t have read!  I am sorry about the mess.  But it really seems to be working!  Keep on, you have less days to go.  I used to give Josh candy after #2.  Mine started going #2 first.  And then when he was trained and kept asking for candy I gave him stickers untill we finish the sticker book.  Now he just has to go b/c he is big “man”. ;o)  With Aggie bribery does not work she just goes whenever she feels like, but goes very often.  :o)

whew.  Charlotte will not even go.  She likes to sit on the potty a lot, but then will stand up and go in her diaper.  I have tried stickers and candy.  Any other suggestions?
I might just go out and buy a musical potty!

At least you are potty training girls, not boys.  My husband let  our youngest boy (two and a half) stand-up when he went to the potty.  I’m an adamant “teach ’em to sit” kind of gal.  Seth is my last to potty train, Elise potty-trained before she was two and Nathan sometime after he was three.  Seth could go if he wanted, but I’ve been lazy with my reinforcement.  Grapes were good for potty-training, and enough of them will promote #2 if you’re really enthusiatic.  Poor Jireh, she was probably dissapointed she didn’t hit her target.  Just cheer her on and jump-up and down like a maniac to make them know how happy you are when they do try.
I’ve got my own poop stories too, we still buy Boudreaux’s Butt Paste even though we only have one in diapers.   Just think of your crown in heaven with it’s pretty gems when your mind is confronted with scatalogical days.  There’s an end to tears and sickness and also dirty diapers.

I’m with you in this!!!  We are three weeks, accident free!  Yay!  Ryley calls it “yellow” and “brown.”  Not sure where she got that. LOL  She had trouble going #2 at first (fear maybe?) and didn’t go for almost a week.  We finally gave her milk of magnesia and told her that if she would “go brown” in the potty, she would get a present.  It worked.  I read somewhere that it’s normal for some kids to have trouble with #2 when training to use the potty….and the more they refuse, the more constipated they are, which causes it to be extra painful when they do end up going, which only confirms their fears.
I think the point is, potty training is relatively and surprisingly easy…once they are ready for it!  LOL  We’ve had our little potty for over a year (since she was 18 months), but she was never interested.  We started about two months ago, putting her on a regular toilet, and that’s what seems to have worked for her.  Also, we just picked a day where we just put her in panties and let her have as many accidents until she got the point….  A lot of it, too, was my husband and I deciding that we were going to work on this together and that we were going to help her go whenever she needs to go and not be lazy about it (i.e., I’m making dinner, she says she needs to go potty, I tell her to go in her pull-up).  The training was more us than her.  LOL

  6. move is taking forever! thanks for asking. yum…popcorn in bacon grease 🙂 i’ll have to try it next time ~ it worked to use microwave in a pan, but the butter they use looks so gross!
